WASTE TIRE COLLECTION EVENT


Sign with tiresOn Saturday, April 21, 2001, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works conducted a waste tire collection event in the Antelope Valley where the illegal dumping of waste tires occurs frequently.

The event was a huge success, collecting approximately 9,800 tires. The event was conducted in cooperation with the City of Lancaster and with funds from the California Integrated Waste Management Board.

Picture of waste tire collection eventThe event was scheduled to coincide with the Antelope Valley Environmental Pride Week. Other events which took place included an electronics recycling collection, a community cleanup, and a household hazardous waste collection.

The waste tire collection event was held at three different locations to give more residents easy access to the event. The collection sites were in Lancaster, Littlerock, and Lake Los Angeles. Outreach to promote the event included flyers, posters, billboards, media releases, radio public service announcements, and advertisements in newspapers.
